I reciently graduated from Highschool and reaserched lapops that would be good for my field of study in college. I was given the HP TouchSmart tm2 as a highschool graduation gift from my parents. I love the laptop but in less then two weeks i found a severe flaw in the computers design. As advertised and glorified, the SmartTouch screen swivels and can lay flat. A small peg is located on both sides of the keyboard which fit into two small slots located on each side of the screen. To succesfully close the screen these pegs and slots align. The laptop was set slightly off track in the face down position, when i picked it up, one of the small pegs on the keyboard punctured the screen and cracked it. These pegs should be spring loaded or possibly placed on the screen as opposed to the keyboard to prevent contact with the screen. When I made contact with Hewlett-Packard about the issue, i was told to send the defected laptop back to HP and a replacement will be sent to me. HP contacted me about a week later to say that they will not replace the laptop, though still under warrenty, it does not cover "damaged screens". The swivel is a great perk but poorly developed. Hewlett-Paccard has refused to aid me in this issue. When paying for quality you expect quality and expect your product to last, with this design a long computer life is not realistic. The cost for a screen replacement is close to $425.00 due to the fact that it is touchscreen. For HP to be such a respected company and not own up to a simple design flaw such as this makes me regret my decision to buy from there company. The TouchSmart is a great computer for my field of study this fall but it is unfortunate that every time I use my computer, the broken screen will remind me of the rediculous headache from HP costomer service and management. If anyone could help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Being a new college student I am in no financial position to be able to pay a bogus $425.00. If anyone has had this issue please comment and if you are thinking of purchasing this product, proceed with caution.
