$160 cancellation fee after 13 years of service and replaced box

Called to cancel Direct TV service after 13 years of service because of substantial savings with Brighthouse.
Was told there was a $160 cancellation fee as I replaced a 10 yr. old defective box in Sep. 2008 and they said there was a 24 mo contract. When I replaced the box I was told no charge as long as I continued service for 1 more year.
Was given a very difficult time and am

very dissatisfied.
Another reason for change was the constant "searching for satellite system" problem here in Florida.
