What a scam! I was appalled at the service of this supposedly community minded help resource. I paid $35 for ten minutes (equivalent to $210/ hr) with a volunteer. I told him what I needed, he got on the phone to a lawyer, who quoted an amount and that was all he said. He gave me NO GUIDANCE, even to the extent that I had the right or wrong forms to fill out. I was really upset about the whole thing. I drove 30 miles at 8:00 at night only to be ripped off. The place totally misrepresented their services - their website says "Every potential client must first receive an initial legal consultation during a Night Clinic appointment WHERE LEGAL ADVICE IS PROVIDED" and "Generally, clients are responsible for a $550 upfront retainer and our hourly rate starts at $40 per hour. For cases involving special circumstances (i.E. Domestic violence, child abuse) SALC may offer special financial assistance through the Legal Access Fund." The phone recording states retainers are between $300 and $1250. I was quoted a $2500 retainer and $150 per hour rate. My case is about child abuse, my children have been abused by their legal guardian. Spread the word - this place may help some people, but they are very dishonest up front.
