We always enjoy the food at the Milk and Sugar Cafe in Bay Shore New York; admittedly, we have never been blown away by the service. We booked our son's christening party in their catering facility across the way. It was $27.95 pp for a buffet brunch plus $7 pp for unlimited beer and wine. We decided to do unlimted beer and wine when we asked how much a drink was there and they said average, $7. Our party was just family (but since we both come from large families, it was 30 people, including us). It was terrible. Here are the thigns we were promised and did not receive:
1. Adequate wait staff - there was one waitress, (and the drinks we served cocktail style - guests couldn't go the bar and get their own drinks). Our guests were lucky if they were served 1 drink at all during the party.
2. Fruit and cheese display upon arrival - a basket lined (not full) with wilted cheese and wrinkled grapes. The cheese looked like it was sliced with a deli slicer - not at all elegant and a basket of RITZ crakers (TACKKKKY!)
3. Omelet station - when they finally opened the omelet station, they made omelets for about 10 minutes and then took the burners to the party next door. We had to ask them to bring them back since our guests had not all had an opportunity to have eggs.
4. Assortment of wraps - what looked like day old sandwishes that had been sat on were sitting behind the counter under plastic wrap until the staff decided it was time to unviel them.
5. Chicken fingers, french fries, mozz sticks for the kids - NOTHING kid friendly. When we asked about the food for the kids we had been promised, the owner said, "I did not know you were going to have that many kids" We told him and he wrote down on our contract that we were having six kids and that is how many kids showed up.
6. Cake with our sons name on it - They SPELLED OUR SON's name wrong on his christening cake!!!
This is the abridged version and I am sure I am leaving out details because I don't want to remember. Basically the bottom line is, we had expectations of an elegant brinch buffet, and the room (which was not set as we were promised and did not have enough seats) looked like it had been hit by a hurricaine and the food like it was dragged in from garbage. I was embarrassed to have brought people there, I was not proud of my party. Had it actually been cheap, it woudl not have been so bad but it was an expensive party that looked like crap. OH THE BEST PART - the owner insisted on being paid the ENTIRE AMOUNT a week in advance in cash... Well... Now we know why. My advice - have your party elsewhere...
