I recieved a check in the mail woth no return address, but postmarked from Canada. I was alerted when I opened the letter and instead of official letterhead it was on copy paper, very sloppy with typing and gramatical errors. The letter asked me to call immediatley with instructions BEFORE heading to the bank. I however decided to call the name of the issuer on the check; Safeco insurance Co. When I finally was able to speak to someone at Safeco they confirmed my thoughts were true. Safeco provided me the name of their abuse department and thanked me for reporting it and not cashing it. I decided however to block my number and call " Miss Grace Thomas". A woman answered, " Hello Readers Digest" I asked for their address and managers name. Startled by my request she claimed she was the manager. I asked why they had mailed me a fraudulent check? She said Oh no no no I need your claim # and you get your money. I kept repeating myself sying I needed their information, she disputed by saying if I would not give her my information she would not give me hers. Finally the phone dropped, and then a Male voice spoke on the other end, " Do you have a desk job?" I replied, " Why yes I do, I work for the Phoenix Police Department." The line went dead.
Please do not fall for their scam!!
