Screwed me without my consent

Do not buy from sears!!! They’re consumer rip offs. Practically $13.00 in their pocket while the consumer was screwed and didn’t enjoy it one bit! Now days, $13.00 is $13.00. Could buy me a couple gallons of gas.
How many other trusting consumers have they ripped off this way?
I went to the Sears on line parts replacement site to order a plastic replacement knob for my trash compactor. I have all the paperwork for my trash compactor and had the part number for the exact knob I needed. I was told this part had been replaced by a different part number, so under good faith, I ordered this $7.00 knob with a $5.00 shipping fee. I had looked at other sites but figured ordering directly from the manufacturer, I would get exactly what I needed. Well, the knob came and there is no way it will fit my trash compactor. So I e-mailed Sears customer service and the reply I received was:
"We regret any difficulties you may have encountered with your knob, switch. After reviewing your order, the knob switch (4154444) is an original equipment manufacturer substitution of part number (4154201) and may be different in appearance but is an authorized substitution. Some modifications may be required for the switch to work properly. Currently, there are no modification instructions available. Set up and pay for a service call for a $7.00 knob??? Do they think I was born yesterday? So here I am, stuck with a $13.00 part (gotta add the sales tax) I can't use or return. And to possibly try and modify it to fit my compactor I would have to cut off a round piece of plastic stem attached to the back of the knob and drill the hole that my compactor requires so the knob fits onto the stem that is a permanent part of the switch. I would also need to try and get the "hole" to be a half circle with it flat on one side & flat on the other side. All this and try not to break the cheap plastic knob.
My opinion? Don't buy ANYTHING from Sears!
All I wanted was to return the part and get all my costs back, including the shipping I had paid, as they were the ones that sent me the wrong part. So the next day I called the number listed in my e-mail. I was transferred between 7, yes 7, different people before getting someone to help me. She then informed me that this was a non-returnable part. Even though on two separate e-mails from Sears this statement is at the bottom:
Satisfaction Guaranteed
Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Money Back. You may return the unused and uninstalled part in its original packaging, along with a copy of your order confirmation, sent to your email address. Returned parts must be received within 90 days of the order date. Credit will be issued for the part (s) plus tax, excluding shipping and handling charges. If after this period you are not satisfied, please let us know. Your complete satisfaction is important to Sears.

Message: I went on line to order a replacement part for my Trash Compactor knob. I put in the part number I listed above and the "system"
told me this knob was replaced by item # 4154444. So, believing in the system, I ordered this knob. I received it a few weeks ago but just now went to attach it to the Compactor. Lo and behold, it's the WRONG PART and won't fit my Compactor. I don't feel I should have to spend my money for shipping the item back, nor should I have to pay to have had it shipped to my house. I should get credit for the entire amount I was charged. Your system is what sent me the wrong part. I would like to have the correct part sent as the original knob is now completely broken.
