MeasureComp is an information service contracted by the Home Depot (flooring dept.) to go out to customers' houses and produce digitally drawn floorplans for the purposes of material and labor estimates. I am writing this complaint under a fake name because (much to my dismay) I am still an employee of MeasureComp, the most miserable excuse for an employer I've ever encountered. And I work construction.
I began working for MeasureComp in the fall of 08 and have been with them for little over 1 year.in that time I have experienced; pay shortages, unannounced schedule changes, abusive supervisors, and unfulfilled promises.
First of all, measurecomp rips off its employees by skimming off their paychecks. They underpay for mileage, they refuse to pay trip charges (even after oral and written requests to my manager Jason Honey, they don't pay for extra rooms, hard surfaces, re-measures (even when its another techs remeasures, a policy that I believe is highly illegal), measures that are manually added to your route while on the road, and worst of all, they lie to you and tell you they will. Furthermore, their charge-back policy is a joke. A charge back is when a job actually costs more than they estimate based on the work the measure tech performed. The difference is taken directly out of the tech's bonuses AS WELL AS billed to the customer. This means that MeasureComp as well as the installer actually profits when an employee screws up. To make matters worse there is no system in place to keep the installers honest. I have personally and very carefully re-measured charge backs that I received and found that there was no mistake made. To top it off, Measurecomp will let a tech make the same mistake over and over until their bonus is depleted, only then will the charge backs be paid by Measurecomp and only then will they contact the tech about the problem.
Secondly, we work monday through saturday (well, we actually work everyday if you consider downloading and scheduling your route to be work, measurecomp does not because they do not pay you for the time spent doing so). Measurecomp feels completely free to change your work schedule by either dropping work days or adding them without giving you any notice whatsoever. I don't know how many times I've done a "get-send" expecting to work the next day only to find out that I had the day off. What makes this so infuriating is that the managers will tell you to find part time work and/or side jobs to supplement their lacking income, but how do they expect us to line up work on the side when they refuse to give us any more than a few hours notice as to any changes in the schedule. They expect us to do a "get-send" everyday after 7:00 pm, another every morning before 9:00 am, complete our jobs between 8:00am and 5:00 pm and be on-call to talk to the office or our manager at any time they choose. I've gotten calls as early as 6:30 am and as late as 10:00 pm. Does it sound to you like I have time for side work?
Finally, you can't accomplish anything talking to your manager. All they do is refer you to someone else who then refers you to someone else. Half the time you wait on hold for 10 min. To talk to the main office. Requests for trip charges, extra rooms, hard surfaces, added jobs either written or spoken are ignored. I was told at the time of hire that I could expect to make $35,000 in my first year. I made about $25,000. I was told at a meeting by Jim Magdval that we would receive $17 per measure as opposed to the $15 per measure that we were currently receiving. This never happened. We were told that after a year we would receive 1 week of vacation time. This was a lie.in truth, after 1 year we BEGIN to accrue vacation time at a rate of. 77 hrs per week. What a joke!
To anybody who reads this report; PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not work for Measurecomp or hire the Home Depot to install new floors in your house. Do not support these crooked greedy b*ards. They must be stopped. Anybody who is currently employed, previously employed, or is thinking about employment at Measurecomp; feel free to contact me via the email provided. I still have that computer with the jobs I've measured as well as every single pay stub received and that's proof of many of these accusations. I am VERY interested in pursuing legal action against this company. Thank you.
