We had Special Order Vinyl Flooring installed last December in two rooms which had just been built in our basement. We visited our local Home Depot and purchased flooring. Next we were contact by phone by the MeasureComp People who took our information so that they could come and inspect the rooms, measure them, and make any recommendations as needed. When they came we were told that since it is a basement to be sure that the rooms were both adequately heated at least a few days in advance, and they also said that we would need to pay for an additional material to be put on the floor to help insure that the flooring would not bubble because the floor underneath is concrete and not completely even, they called it a skim coating. We agreed to both and made sure that the heat was installed immediately and the rooms were heated days in advance of the installation. The installers came and did their work and went. About two months ago my husband and I noticed a line of bubbled floor in one of the rooms so my husband called Home Depot. They told us they would send the installer back to look at the work. The person who came told my husband clearly that his recommendation to Home Depot was going to be a reinstall of that floor. Home Depot finally called today to inform us that it is not their issue, it is our fault because of excess moisture? They further said that we "should have installed a moisture barrier under the floor first". According to our paperwork it clearly states that when the installer comes they will not do the work if the conditions necessitate additional cost or materials without advising the customer (us) and getting our consent and payment. We were not at any point advised about a need for this.in fact, the extra coating they did put down (skim coating) was a surprise from the installers not mentioned at time of sale. From the day we met with the saleswoman we were very clear that it was a concrete basement floor. Furthermore, there is little or no moisture of any kind in our basement. We feel that Home Depot does not want to honor the contract, and are incredibly disappointed. We will never give them business again after this experience.
