On Jan 17th of this year I bought close to eighty dollars of merchandise from the West City, Illinois store, which included a $1.50 reading glasses that the cashier put in a seperate sack... On my way out the theft alarms went off and I was stopped as any shoplifter would be... The item was checked and verified that I had paid for the glasses... And without apology... I went on my way... Now the problem that I have with that is the embarassment and humiliation that stemmed from the incident... I spent 15 years as a Police Officer and it was not a great feeling to be accused of stealing... I think that when this happens... The cashier that didn't properly scan for release of the itms should be reprimanded and have to pay for the item in question... And it should be given free to the customer as an apology for the embarassment... This has happened to me on two different occasions... including once at the Herrin Illinois store... Their safety net is great... But they need some changes in their treatment policy of the customer during and after the incident... And there is no doubt many others have gone thru the same type of humiliation... It's pretty embarassing... And a bad situation to e put in...
