I recently (Because I WATCH my balances and am a responsible adult) found out that BB&T deducted $70 in overdraft fees from my account.
If I spending money or as some of you guys say 'Living off the float', I couldn't complain and be taken seriously. However, I was in the positive the entire time.
Here's a basic scenerio of how it played out:
$551 in my account (posted, available, all that stuff).
I moved $300 of it over to savings.
My balance, pending a charge for gas was $241.
My car insurance for $56 and a $7 charge at the grocery store should have come to $178 left in the account, there was a charge for a bookstore purchase which brought it to $137. So imagine my surprise when i go to withdraw money from my account and the balance is $47.
How is this possible? I asked customer service, and each reply is different but they (not me!) all agree the charges are accurate as to what my posted amount is, and actually my available balance isn't $47, it's -$191!
WTF!
I have yet to see my balance as being -$191! I don't see it at all and I mean in my online statement I have yet to see it! I do see where I transfered money back from Savings to Checking because obviously that where it would seem the problem originated, and I see (lost my job in march) where my unemployment check is pending posting. I see my account balance in the positive, but no one at the stupid bank a.) sees where there's a problem and b.) obviously don't know what numbers are.
Oddly enough for those who think it's mismanagement, this CAN happen to you to! I need every last penny I can get so it's not like I'm buying diamonds or anything with my small check I get from the state.
FYI-Trace back these complaints, they go way back to the $700 billion bailout. I talked to a guy this week whose account is at bank of america, $500 balance on funds posted/available and THEY charged him NFS for $50 rent payment on a storage shed.
