True & Associates is a leading marketing firm located in the Deerfield / North Ft. Lauderdale area. The company is developing and implementing campaigns to increase client market share and public awareness of our prestigious client base. We are focused on campaigns that address large markets in the sporting and racing industries. We have recently expanded our client roster, and we have a need for qualified individuals who are ready to start immediately.
The owner's name is True Apodaca and he is far from "True" he is fake, flamboyant, and he preys on good people desperate for a job.
My experience below:
I received a phone call from a girl to come in an interview for this company. I was told to bring a copy of my resume. Now, I have been a very successful business woman in previous years with a very polished resume. My former company was forced to lay off several decorated individuals because of the status of the economy, and unfortunately I was one of them.
I showed up to the interview and there were several applicants in the waiting room of a very shabby, poorly decorated, neon green colored office, with a girl behind a greeting desk listening to loud hip hop music. I thought this is a bit unproffessional but I decided to stay since I just drove for a half hour. I waited for a few people to interview before me and than it was my turn. The name of the person interviewing me was "True Apodaca" so I assumed he was the owner, "True & Associates" He seemed pretty intelligent and he was explaining to me that his company does the marketing and promoting of some huge named clients and puts on very special events for these businesses. I explained to "True" that I needed to secure a position that offered both a base salary and commission, he insured me that the manager in training position that I was applying for does compensate with a salary plus an aggressive commission structure. He also told me that he is only hiring a couple very qualified people for the position and those who made the first cut would indeed have a second interview. I was a lucky one this day, because I made the first cut and set a second interview with "True".
He told me that the second interview was hands on and I would actually go out to one of the events and see if I liked the job. He told me to wear a polo shirt and black pants, and comfortable shoes. He also told me that I would have to dedicate 3-4 hours of my time for the second interview.
I was dumb enough to show up for the second interview. I was told by True that I would be riding with Anthony to Boynton Beach to assist in an event. That Anthony would be reporting my capabilities and my proffessionalism back to True, and if I had what it took, than I could be hired. True reminded me that he was only hiring two very qualified candidates for the future "management" position so I'd better impress Anthony. True also had me sign a legal document that stated that I was not to be paid for my time, that I was there voluntarily. Anthony and I headed out together in his vehicle and I had the opportunity to ask him plenty of questions about the position and the company. He was a very nice guy, I just feel bad that he is part of this rediculous company. Anthony and I arrived at a gas station in Boynton Beach, there was another guy there waiting for us. There was a small table set up outside, all decorated with wax products. Anthony told me that we were there to demonstrate a wax product to the people that were pumping gas. So he grabbed a can of spray on wax and started walking up to random people pumping gas. He would ask them if they saw "the promotion" He would then spray some of the wax on the window, the paint, and the rims of their cars and show them how the product worked. He would than tell them that today only, they could buy two cans of the spray wax for $25.00. He repeated this process of pitching random people (as I stood behind him) for the next 4 hours. The other guy that we met there was doing the same thing.interestingly enough Anthony did not sell any bottles of wax, but the other guy made two sales. At this time, although I was furious, I just made the best of it and kept my mouth shut.
We arrived back at the office in Deerfield Beach, where I filled out a questionaire. It was actually testing me on what I had learned at the gas station. I filled it out and than went into "True's" office for a wrap up of my interview. After asking me many questions, and explaining to me the "compensation plan" he offered me a position with his company. There was no base salary, actually the commission that he offered me was 35% of every wax product that I sold. I was so insulted, upset, and frustrated that I just declined the position and went on my merry way. I explained to him that the hours were way too long for me (I am a mother of 3 teenagers) and I was expected to work at the gas station, demonstrating wax to people that were pumping their gas from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday for 35% of whatever wax I sold for the week. Meanwhile I am desperate to return to work and my time was wasted, and my intelligence was insulted indeed.
True is a phony, he uses fraudulent hiring techniques to suck innocent hard working people into a grueling and bogus position for very little pay. No one would ever apply for this job if they knew what their job duties entailed. That is exactly why he conducts his business this way, these are the tactics that he uses to extort people from their valuable time. He should face criminal charges, this is obsurd. There are no other companies that he does promotions for. His website featues many products for many companies that he markets for and it is all a lie. The only product that he sells is this car wax. People~ please do not interview with True & Associates, your intelligence will be insulted and you will feel like a fool when the day is over.
