Missing package

I sent a birthday gift package via priority mail for my niece in California and it's been missing for a month. I went to the post office and talked to the manager 2 weeks after the delivery date and filled out a form and she copied my receipt. I went there today and talked to the person, but she could not locate the form or the copy of my receipt. Her boss was too busy to talk to me and I was reffered to a customer service department. This experience has been extremely upsetting and I can't trust the people working for USPS anymore.
