Direct Energy has not sent me a bill since June. I just received my bill and it is for services going back 24 months! And includes a tamper charge! Total bill is over $6,000.
According to Direct Energy a single who travels much of the time uses a minimum of 27,000 KWH a month. And based on this calculation they have decided I must have tampered with my meter.
According to the PUC regardless of any charges filed, they can only back charge me for upto a maximum of 180 days. However, Direct Enegergy states that I must pay this 24 month retro bill or they will turn my service off and file collections on me.
Direct Energy also contends that I own the electric meter and it is my responsiblity to maintain it, therefore it is my fault it did not report my energy useage properly. I still have this meter!
They also state that they had computer issues and that is why I have not received a bill in so long.
What is a consumer to do?
