While checking my account on-line today, I notice a pending charge from Shopping Essentials. I had never heard of this company. The bank could give me a name and phone number, but no other info on this company.
I called the number and went through a 5 minute automated info session having to give them my phone number, account number and register number. (Figured they had already hit my account, they had this info.) After finally reaching a real person, I told her that I wanted this account canceled. She stated that I had signed up for this account while buying something on-line. I did not sign up for anything. I told her that I wanted to know what site I had signed up with them on and was told that she didn't have that information. I stated that she had my checking information, she should be able to tell me that. She agreed to cancel the account.
I then called the bank back and told them that it was a scam and asked what could be done, their answer was nothing until the bank processed the charge! She told me I could cancel my credit card and get another or wait until the charge went through and dispute it to try to get my money back.
What a ripoff!
