After seeing a report of another listed on your site with the same problem, I decided to add mine as well.
I just received my Visa credit card statement and found a charge in the amount of $134.95. I tried to call the phone number listed on the statement and got a recording asking for my membership ID#. Since I knew nothing about the charge, I had no number to provide.
That is when I searched the web for any information I could find and I came across this site. Another gentleman from VA had the same problem, for the same amount only with a Debit card. I contacted the phone number he had provided in his statement (1-888-206-2321) and spoke to someone named Myrna who gave me a confirmation # 4699 and also advised that the charges would be credited in 3-5 days.
She proceeded to tell me that they have a pop up on the internet. It has fine print at the bottom which says after a free 30 day trial you will be charged. All you need to do is click the "yes" button. She said they get the card number from AOL.
Since I have not authorized this number to be given out, I am really concerned. I am not convinced that AOL is providing this information, but am really concerned as to where they are getting it. I am also concerned that you can be boxed in to accepting something without having to insert your number. This sounds highly illegal and if it isn't it is boarderline and should be.
I imagine that there are many who are charged this amount and because of higher credit card balances, are not even aware that they are paying for this. Something needs to be done. If there is one doing this, I would assume there are others.
