My husband and I had a SUV and decided we needed something smaller and more efficient.in February we went to look at cars at different dealerships in Charlotte. We stopped at East Charlotte Nissan because we have both owned Nissans before and thought we could find a nice car for our family.
It was around 10am when we arrived at the dealership, we were very clear in what we were looking for and what we were willing to spend. The salesman showed us car after car, nothing like what we had in mind.
We told him thank you for your time and tried to leave. But he insisted we wait, he asked for my keys to our SUV and basically held them hostage, keeping us at the dealership for a couple more hours.
Finally after basically throwing a fit, they returned my keys and 'allowed' us to go get some lunch while they cleaned up a car that we might be interested in. We made some contacts while at lunch in regards to this car and received good feedback so we decided to see if we could make a deal.
Before we returned to East Charlotte Nissan they called on my cell and told me that it was going to cost the service department more than they had said before and they wanted us to pay an additional $500 for the car.
I told them to forget it, if they didn't back the original offer they made to us, we weren't interested. Of course wanting to sell the car... They decided to 'eat' the additional cost, (if indeed there was any).
We waited another two hours for them to finally finish cleaning the car for us, one salesman stopped by to congratulate us on our purchase. He had just taken the car on trade in from a couple, "It was a one owner". Finally, we had the car and left the lot, pleased with our purchase.
The next day, we noticed that when you applied the brakes there was a strange noise. We contacted the dealership, they said bring it in and we did. They moved much more quickly this time, we barely had time to sit down before a man came and said "let's look at your brakes, they are fine!"
True enough, the brakes did look ok, but there was still that odd noise. For weeks after leaving the dealership the second time I tried to contact our salesman to no avail. I sent emails, made phone calls and had to contact his superiors.
Meanwhile, I did a little research... The car was not a one owner, it had been involved in an accident and if you look, you can still see damage on one side.
After six months I received a response by email stating that there was simply nothing that could be done after all this time with no warranty. We had plenty of time when we first contacted them less than three days after purchase and again within one day of returning.
Each time I see the commercials for East Charlotte Nissan and now the new South Charlotte Nissan, I am disgusted. We are spending a small fortune getting things in order with this car. I fully expect that eventually you will have maintenance or some issues with any vehicle. But knowing there was something they could have done in the first place, well that is just bad business.
So, if you are out shopping for a new car in Charlotte, be sure you DON'T stop in at East Charlotte Nissan, unless you like to get ripped off!
