Telephone account

I received a collection letter for my telephone. I change service several months ago I didn't received any notification concerning this account. I called Cavalier about my payment of $40.74 but refused to accept my payment. I want this account to be reverse back to Cavalier and a letter from them that this will not affect my credit. The collection Agency is I.C. System, INC, P.O. Box 64380, ST. Paul, Mn 55164. What is so frustrate about this service it is an answering machine. My account number is is2788378.
