The MWI Galleria USA first charge my checking account for $1.00 on Dec. 30. Then on January 7 I was charged $96.00 by MWI Essentials and $12.95 by MWI Connections. Then to top it all off I was charge $139.95 on Feb. 6 by MWI Galleria USA and a charge of $12.95 by MWI Connections.
I had no idea what these charges where for. I never ordered anything from this Companies, but I once called on an offer for free gas coupons on a 30 day free trail. I was told that I would get the free coupons even if I cancelled the membership.
Within one week I cancelled the membership by calling the number I was given. I was stupid and gave them my debit card no. I am a single parent on disability because of MS. Raising to young girls. I can not afford to be ripped off corporate con-artists. I serached the internet and found out that Memberworks Inc. (MWI) has many companies to rip off the unsuspecting. They are being sued in Calf. And settled a suit in Minn. That if unwanted charges appear they have to refund double the amount.
I called my bank in Ohio and found out I had sixty days to dispute the charges. I then called all three of the companies to get a credit. When called I was told it was membership for discounts at all these great stores and for movies. They said I had order the membership when responded to an infomercial. I was blunt and told them I wanted my money back.
All three told me I was sent a membership packet. All three told me I threw it away because I thought it was junk mail. I told them I opened all my mail because I was still looking for those $300 in gas coupons.
All three tried to sell me more stuff or send me $20 in coupons or lower the membership rate.in the end they agreed to credit my account and said it would show up in one to two months. I said it should not take that long and that I will be checking my account online daily. Two telemarketers did not respond, but one said I should see it in 3 to 5 business days.
MWI companies assume alot of people will not know how to get the refund or look to see that they are being ripped off. These companies should be shutdown and all officers be sent to jail. However, this will never happen because attorneys will only file civil suits for attorneys to make money.
I think that everyone in Minn. Should try get charges on their accounts and than request double the amount in refunds. People should also contact the large corporations that you are to get discounts from and tell them that you and your friends will never due business with them if they let MWI companies use there name.
