I am posting this here so all the moms who feed their families can see...
On November 2 i went to Food Lion (one of our local grocery stores) and bought two boxes of stuffing and other things... I get home and open the stuffing and pour it into a bowl what do you think comes out: a 2" piece of rubber from a machine belt, you can tell it broke off a machine from the edges, it was filthy and disgusting.
So i call the hotline which isnt open because its Sunday... But call the store and speak to the Asst Mngr cause the Manager is off, its Sunday...
Anyway the Asst Manager appears genuinely shocked and says... What can I do for you about this... A free box? A refund on the product? I say at the very least... He was truly apologetic...
But now the more i think about it... And as i opened other Food Lion Products, i am now totally paranoid about their handling of proucts and what could I have missed and eaten in the past
Well I call corporate headquarters this morning and let them know whats going on. They assure me they will handle the matter immediately, notify the vendor and have quality control call me back... This was at 9am.
At 3pm, I call back headquarters and inform them that I have not been given a return call and I am very angry at this point, nevermind disgusted. The Svc Rep, assures me that the matter is being handled and someone will call me back. Well at 4:58 no return phone call... So i call back and am told the same story... I explain to her, all i wanted was the matter handled and the product pulled from the shelves... I mean what if its smaller pieces that you feed to your children. She starts to get nasty and short with me, and I said you know, as of this morning, I wanted my $1.40 back and an apology, but now... I am not so happy and my lawyer will be taking a call from me.
Well now im boiling and on a rant, so I call the store manager at 5:20 and would you believe he hasnt heard anything about this... The product is still on the shelf and selling... Isnt that nice?
He was more apologetic, well he offered an apology, something corporate headquarters refuses to do... I will continue my rant to Food Lion tomorrow and if i am not happy will be going to the local newspapers.
ANOTHER UPDATE: November 4
Well another half day went by with no return phone calls, so I called again, spoke to a very sweet Customer Service Rep Jackie, who went above and beyond and connected me with the department who is in charge of informing vendors of problems and such. Well... This Kelly person, informed me that as of 2PM this afternoon, they still hadnt informed the vendor of the problem, nor had tried contacting them. I got very upset and demanded the vendor information. She gave me the name address and email... Stating they do NOT have a phone number for them... Ha ha yea right, well i tracked down a number via internet and it was the wrong vendor... So Food Lion continues to knowingly sell contaminated foods... I am asking all of you to please, just fill in a short email form and if you want you can include my name, Theresa Tanella... And tell them just how you feel at the moment... Let them know they lost a customer over this, whether or not you are or were a customer... I will not take this sitting down, so help me stand up please.
