I moved into Park Place North in October with a friend of mine.in November the roof in the bathroom started to leak. They actually got out there and tried to fix it. But a few days later it started to leak again. It leaked off and on for two more weeks when they came in and tried to fix it again. The maintenance man said that he couldn't fix it without ripping a huge hole in the roof. So they manager (Judith Rodriquez) moved us to a new unit.
We took possession of the new unit in January. The rent was going fine at that point. My roommate had her baby in February and that about the time stuff hit the fan. Two weeks later me and my roommate started to fight for stupid reasons. We ended fighting about every other day.
Now let me explain this before I go any further. My roommate was only 17 yrs. Old and signed the lease (which I still think was illegal) her parents signed a piece of paper saying that it was okay. She receives SSI in her mom's name. So her dad said I will make the rent payments if you pay for everything else in the apartment. I tried my best to get him to agree to something else but he wouldn't budge. I finally gave up and said fine.
April 4 I received a note from the Asst. Manager. (Misty Biztok) And it said that we owed $204.00 (I get Section 8). I gave this note to my roommates dad, and he said that he would take care of it. I honestly thought that he was gonna take of it. Later that month me and my roommate got into a really big fight. She ended up sticking a knife in my face and then damaging the apartment and tried to commit suicide. I told her parents that I do not want her back in this apartment that I can't handle this kinda stuff anymore.
Me and her father sat down and discussed May's rent. He promised me that he would pay for May's rent. Then I asked him if he paid the 204 back rent. He said yes he did. Evens that lead past this date would take forever to tell you. So I will narrow it down.
The manager came to me in June and told me that I need to pay rent. I asked how much do I owe. She told me 517.50. I was stunned. I asked why so much and she told that no rent has been paid since February. Again I was stunned. I told that all I had to pay them would be a hundred dollars. They said okay. I told them if they could wait until July 3 then I could pay the most of it down (I get SSI & SSDI). They said that would be okay. During June I talked to my ex-roommate's parents and they said that since a baby crib got broken then they weren't gonna pay the back rent.
In July I paid them $500.00. I only owed a balance of $85.73. That was supposed to be paid by Community Partnerships. But they never paid. The middle of July my boyfriend got added to the lease. I asked the manager if I needed to pay rent and she said that since the section 8 contracts are gonna change and she doesn't know how much I have to pay then no. I asked her if she was sure. She said yes.
I asked the same rent question in August. She asked me if I have contracts yet or now an amount. I told no I don't the amount I have to pay nor do I have contracts. She okay the answer is still no. I offered to pay her but she wouldn't take it. So I walked out telling her when I hear something I will let you know.
Now it's September and they switched manager's. And I get a note from the new manager (Donna) saying to come down to the office to discuss the rent. So me and my fiance went down to the office. Before we could explain the situation she said that we are going to be evicted. I tried to tell her what was going on. She wouldn't hear of it. So I walked out of the office mad. I couldn't stand to be in there.
I called the manager the next day asking who owns Park Place North or if they could give me the district manager's (Rick) phone number. They said that a whole bunch of investers own the apartments, and that couldn't give out Rick's number. So I had her call Rick. She said okay and that she would call me later. They never called back. So the next day I called them and asked what he said and she sorry but there's nothing we can do because the paper's already went to the attorney's. So I said fine.
There is a lot more info on this case; like what section 8 did wrong. The fact the privious manager and Asst. Manager would tell me one thing and then tell my ex-roommate another thing. And that she never wrote down what she tells her tenants or tells the district manager what going on.
Let me get back to what I was talking about, the amount that they say I owe is $1,175.00. Now I have calulated the rent that I missed because of the former manager and section 8. And it never comes close to that amount. I told the new manager this and all she said is that is what accounting sent down. I told that it's not right and I can prove it. I have the recepits from when I paid $600.00 in two months. She said that she didn't care it's out of her hands.
Now I am at a point that I have nowhere to go. Most other apartments won't take anyone with a eviction on their record. And my fiance lost his job and I only get paid once a month. So we don't have any money right now and trying to look for a house that could help us out. If anybody has any info on Park Place North let me know because I am gonna fight this eviction. Plus if anybody knows where someone might rent to us then let me know.
