Credit Fraud—Scam

I was contacted just recently by a person (Lance) working for a company who was supposedly helping Visa/Mastercard with a promotional offer. He said that he was new with the company and to bear with him as he went through the spiel & tried to answer my questions.

He went on to explain that I had been entered in a drawing for $50,000 for being a loyal customer to Visa/Mastercard. Then asked which one I used. He also explained that as part of a promotion I was going to receive 5 mags at no cost plus a Diamond Watch in Mens or Ladies style.

He named off the mags I would be receiving & then to help them out... Blah, blah, blah, I could get a 6th mag for $3.64/mth. & I asked 2x if that was all I would be paying for is that one. He said "Yes" & proceeded to let me know that his manager would explain the pymt. Plan since he was new & did not know all the details on that.

He had to warn me that his Sup would be rating him on his srv so he would appreciate it if I would put in a good word for him. I agreed to do so because he was being polite about everything.
After finishing up our conv he said the Sup would be calling me back in 5 to 10 so she could verify my order, his srv, and explain the pymt to me.

She did call me back as said & verified name, address, etc then asked for my card # & I gave it to her. Usually people that call me up with such offers do not even get this far, I guess this time I thought I would take a chance to win some $ from the credit card co that I deal so much with anyway plus get some mags that I actually read on a mthly basis.

I was told that the mag would be $3.64/wk, $14.56/mth for 48mths but instead of prolonging the pymts they could chrg $58.24 to cover 4mths at a time so I would be paid off by Dec rather continuing to pay the remainder of the srv. I thought that would be fine & went through the verification process again.

I was told that in 3-7 days I would be receiving a list of mags that I can swap out w / the ones I had already agreed to if I should ever want a chng in material. She went on to say that I would get the watch once I signed the Cust Rls form that I would also rcv in 3-7 days. Then in 7-10 I would get a pkg containing an iss of the mags that I was rcv for the promo & the one I was purchasing.

I thought all of that to be alright until I spoke w / my husband who reminded me that you never give out cc #'s, social, or any other vital pc of info over the phone. He said that these people could clean us out simply because they now have access to our acct and that scared me back into reality & I started to have 2nd thoughts about what I had done.

The comp CMS had called me back a cpl of days later to verify my order & I let them know that I wanted to cancel it & the lady (Belinda) said that is the purpose of the call—to verify everything before a chrg is made to my acct & the order is sent. She said that the phone call may be recorded to insure good cust srv was provided by her & thought nothing of it.

She proceeded to verify my name, address, dob, status, etc after I let her know again that I just wanted to cancel. I did not want to hold off on pymt for 7 days or want them to give me 2wks b4 calling back again to verify my order. She said that I would rcv a Cancellation Lttr in 3-14 days. She then tried to get me to agree to a vacation just for trying out a Hlth Ins but I also declined that as well. She did not try any further & we ended the conv after I got her name & the name of the co again.

I went on the net to look up this co & was brought to this site where I read up on numerous complaints towards this co & it scares me to think that I may have been scammed as well. I have notified my bank & they say the best I can do is cancel my card. I check my acct everyday to make sure that I still have $ & that they have not chrgd me for those mags.

Thanks to these reports, I am more aware of what can happen when these solicitors are given the opportunity to lure us all in to the numerous sales pitches. Now I have to worry about these people contacting me for $ when I have cancelled my order.

Good luck to us all because it sounds like a never-ending nightmare with this co & I am surprised they have not been jailed for Fraud yet. They must not know honest work does exist.
