I have had pet insurance on several pets through various underwriters with this company since 2000. During the last few years, they stopped sending updated policies, stating that the old ones were renewed. When I questioned this, I received the first three pages on ONE of my pet's polices, despite the fact I had three insured. They have tried every trick in a much used insurance industry book to not pay claims recently submitted. First, they claim that they never received the claim during the time to file the claim.
I have the proof and am giving it to the Attorney General. Secondly, they actually misquoted veterinarian records to change the context and meaning of a vet entry (I HAD the records). Their SEC statement of risk, filed on 12/31 says it all. As they state, they took on an 83% increase in policies in an attempt to raise capital and stay afloat, despite the fact that their parent company, The Hartville Group, posted 49 Million in losses, if I am to interpret their filing correctly.
They try to exclude coverage stating that a condition manifested itself during a prior period, and when my vet disagreed (the same on that they used to deny a claim) they refused to contact her. At one point I had 5 pets insured. All was well before tI actually filed a claim. I am going for broke in going up against these people.
I defy the Hartville Group to respond in toto. PROVE ME WRONG! I welcome any other entries, particularly from the Northeast, as I am disguisted with their treatment of people. Oh, and if they DO pay a claim, it is a fraction of the actual cost, yet they are one of the most ridiculously expensive insurance policies in the business. Caveat Emptor.
There are better companies out there. Do a search and you will see I am not alone in my concerns. I have the records, I have the butchery of the same. The proof, they say, is in the pudding. Please don't partake of their offerings... You will suffer the fate of many. Why else would I, after eight years and three-five pets, file a report??? This is my first report, btw.
