This is really happened, I assure you: MCM contacted me a few weeks ago, trying to contact an individual at my telephone number under the idea that he was delinquent on a loan. Thing is, the "person" they were trying to contact is my dead dog... And he died several years ago, many years before I moved into this house and many years before the number they called belonged to me. Now, my dog was amazing, and did tricks for my amusement, but I am pretty sure the lack of opposing thumbs would have prevented him from filling out any credit application. MCM promised to remove the number from their list, but lo and behold, 2 more calls today for my dead dog. They said they had a SSN, and they were not trying to contact my dead dog, and maybe this is so, but how did they attach whomever they were looking for to my name and phone number (and they were not able to identify me)? The rep treated me poorly like it was my fault, and I made him understand to no end the legal consequences of any further contact. I am pretty sure a jury of my peers would rake them over the coals if I took civil action.
