This past week I was scammed into buying flyers to promote the website www.game-time.Us.com. The gentleman I spoke with after responding to an ad on monster.com was very polite and seemed genuinely interested in working with me. After a brief interview, the president of the company called me to begin my employment. We chatted for a while about the company and sports, then began the scam.
Jake (aka Nick for in sports) began telling me about the flyers I would need to purchase and how the promoting works. He asked if he could record the next part of oue conversation as a confirmation of sorts. He asked if I understood the flyers cost 24 cents each, and that I would purchase 8000 of them to begin. He said I had the option of paying 20-25 dollars a month, which would represent the minimum payment on my credit card. The next question asked if I understood that my account would be charged "nineteen-twenty" for the full amount. Then some other stupid questions about following sports.
That night, my bank calls to ask if I approved a purchase of $1,920! Of course I didn't! But Jake seems to think I did. Now, almost a week later, I am in the process of filing a dispute and have spoken with Jake twice. The first time he offered to buy out my contract for $1000, leaving me $920 to pay or "work off" in 6 months. Today, he upped the offer to $1200.
He kept telling me that he was using "common english" and "everyday language" when he said "nineteen-twenty." HE WENT AS FAR AS TO PLAY A CLIP FROM THE PRICE IS RIGHT IN MY EAR! He played a section when people bid on a prize, and they all bid "fourteen-fifty" our "twelve-twenty." I told him it was different context, no relevance. We know the people aren't bidding $14.50, because you simply can't in the game.
So now, I am to the point where I have linked the 2 websites to one man with different aliases. If anyone has any further ideas on how to go at this guy, please help out. I hope you read this before it happens to you. There needs to be a link on the job websites to this site to help people like us.
Don't make the same mistake I did.
