First, I want to thank everyone who has filed a report prior to me. You guys are life-savers. If I didn't read your testimonials I'd be in big trouble. Unfortunately I read this only after I had been scammed, but it still saved me.
This is a company fronted by a man that goes by several names, but the 2 main ones are "Nick" and "Jake". Neither one is real. This man is a con-artist and a slimey one at that. Let me explain to you how his scam works.
Game-Time advertises on on careerbuilder.com and monster.com. They place ads for "Sports Promoter" or "Sports Manager". It seems enticing if you are a sports fan and want to break into marketing at the same time. So you e-mail your resume and that is where it all begins.
Once they receive your resume, they will ask you to write in 200 words or less why you want to be part of the company. They ask you to do this because they will only target you for the scam if you are passionate about working for them, then you get a phone call.
You get a phone call from an "associate" of the company. The man is very pleasant and proffesional sounding. He asks you questions about your sports knowledge, etc. Then he states that he will talk to the "president" and if he is interested he will call shortly.
The "President" calls. He says his name is Jake. He gives you almost no information but asks if you will accept a hiring invitation. If you ask questions about how the job works and how you go about starting on a promotion campaign he will answer in 3 or 4 words then steer it back to the scam.
I fell for this, I thought it was legit. Now the big trouble begins! He asks if he can record the conversation, I say OK. He tells me to answer yes or no. He speaks so quickly you are not even sure what he is asking. But here is the important question - the question that will haunt you forever. He tells you he is going to send you 8,000 flyers and that so long as you are with the company, you will be charged $19.20 each month for the flyers. It sounded reasonable enough, gotta pay for paper and printing costs, right? AND THE QUESTION IS - DO YOU AUTHORIZE PAYMENT OF $19.20 TO YOUR CREDIT CARD (which he asks for just before this question). You say "yes" (and THEN YOU ARE IN BIG TROUBLE). He then stops the recording and says he's so excited to work with you and that he'll be sending everyting out with instructions on how to do this, etc. But you were not charged 19.20! You were charged 1,920.00!!! Let me repeat that - nineteen-hundred and twenty dollars!
yep... I came on here and decided just to make sure the company was on the up and up and I found the reports. I called "Jake" and demanded my money back, he said that the card had already been charged and tried to blame it on me that he was using simple math and common english, etc. I demanded the money back and he gave me some void confirmation # and said it would "fall off" the card in 2-3 business days. Well, the void # was a made-up number and though things are OK now, this never fell off.
This man is slime. He makes a living off this scam and probably a damn good one. Imagine if I hadn't seen this... The kind people posting their horror stories... I'd still be waiting for my materials and then my credit card statement would arrive and I would have dropped dead. Thank you again to everyone who posted about their similar situations. To anyone who is reading this and is thinking of applying or has already been hired - DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN ANY PAYMENT INFORMATION. He is an un-repentant thief. A total slime-ball. I don't know how he sleeps at night. But if you are reading this, "Jake" or "Nick" or whoever you are, I hope this keeps at least a few people away from your scam. You should be ahamed of yourself.
