I signed a contract with CCS construction on the 3rd of Nov. The contract was for new shingles, new siding, a new bay window, and a front porch with sidewalk. A new bay window (costing me $4000.00 dollars) was not put in, all that was done by wrapping the old bay area with siding. A small roof was put on the bay window. The same shingles used on the roof were not used on the bay window area. The old front porch was to be removed and a new one built in its place, a water barrier was to be placed between the porch and the house, it was not. The hand rail put up was loose.
In the process of putting in the new steps/porch, the steps were ripped out with a bobcat while clean up was being done. The steps had to be repoured. After the steps were repoured, where the steps meet the porch, is now splitting and pulling away from the porch. Where holes were drilled to put in the uprights for the hand rails, it is cracking. The sidewalk has been repaired once because the mix used was not right. I do not believe that any permits were issued for the work on the house. The porch alone was a $9000.00 job.
The total cost of the job was 38,679.50.
As stated, the Contract was signed on the 3rd of Nov the job was to be completed by 20 Dec barring bad weather. We had little to no bad weather that year. I have contacted Mr Cockrill time and time again. He very seldom returns my calls. The last time I talked to
Mr Cocrill, was in February. He was in Harrisburg PA at a hunting show because he is now doing a video on field dressing deer. I called his office but the call was
transferred to his cell.
I asked him where he was, and when he was coming
down to fix the sidewalk. He began swearing at me about using salt on concrete to melt snow and ice. I explained I knew what using salt would do and that pretty
much put an end to the swearing. He stated that he would have his crew come and rip out the old chipped sidewalk and replace it. Mr. Cockrill stated that he
would not do any work on the sidewalk until March due to cold weather. I said that would be fine. That was in February, and I haven't heard from him since.
The sidewalk is peeling up again, this is after the cement crew came back and patched it. The entire job was a mess. I was continually having to call him to find the status on when he would start the job. I really feel my wife and I were cheated out of our money. I have yet to receive any warranties on any of the materials he used on the house.
Mr Cockrill and his company are truly unprofessional. Is there any way I can get my house fixed, or at least money
back from where CCS did not perform up to the contract. The job is finished, but it is truly unacceptable From the road the house looks beautiful. Up close it
does not. Mr Cockrill even made the comment on the condition of the porch If you brought 10 people up here, no one would notice the mistakes. My comment
back was those 10 people did not pay 38 thousand dollars out of their pocket, and I am not happy Nothing has been done to this day to fix the problems Mr
Cockrill and his company has caused.
On 25 April Mr. Art Baily (Stafford County Inspector) came to my house to look at the work that CCS Construction had done. I was informed by the county that no permits had been pulled for work performed
on my property. Mr Baily told me that the steps leading up to the stoop/porch that CCS constructed were not to code and could be dangerous.
A complaint was filed against CCS Construction, and the company was found guilty on 6 accounts. However, CCs will pay a small fee to the state, and I am still out the money and still have problems with my house.
