I too have fallen "victim" to temp agencies.in fact, I work for one now. Not making enough money, while they rake in money for their "services". I have had a career doing accounting work. Clerical if you call it that. I am trying to get a decent well paying job that goes beyond clerical. I have registered, interviewed, tested, posted resumes with Robert Half, but with no avail. Sometimes I will get a call out of the blue - saying I saw your resume on Monster, etc.instead of constantly recruiting, they should be concentrating on the folks they have in their system. I have been to the office more than once. They claim Accountemps is a different system even though both Accountemps and Robert Half are in the same office. They seem to want to place you where they want, regardless of what you tell them you want as far as work, or where you want to go for work. Gas is expensive. I will not use up my car to go 20 miles or more just for a low paying temp job. I did have a short stint with Accountemps last year. Better a little than nothing at all. After the assigment ended, they did not line me up with another assignment, and I do not hear from them, even though I constantly apply online for jobs with Robert Half. I only wish I knew of someone who is directly hiring. I know the economy is in a real mess, but I am a seasoned accountant that needs a better paying job.
