Last night I looked at my bank account online, and found a very weird check that I didn't remember writing.in fact, I don't write checks. So I looked into it, and the check was made out to FloridaWay. The funny part was, my fiancee's name was on the check. Currently, he's in Oklahoma for basic training for the Army. He has no checkbook, is not allowed to recieve phone calls, and can only use his debit card if necessary. I knew there was absolutely no way he could have known about this.
This morning I went to my bank and told them about it. They were very helpful, and believed me that this was fraud. I have a new account, but I'm still worried. Our old account has to remain open because my fiancee's pay is direct deposited. He obviously isn't here to sign himself on the account or sign new direct deposit forms.
I have no idea how they got his information, but they did, and took full advantage of it. He said that sometime ago, a telemarketer called his cell phone, which oddly enough, was the only phone number listed on the "check".
