On April 20 I purchased what I thought was a healthy puppy from Bill "Rick" Bartmann, in Mounds, Oklahoma. Upon picking up the puppy at the airport, my first impression was that this puppy was too small to be 9 weeks old. The following day I called "Rick" to tell him we received "Bear" and asked him the puppies birthday. He stated Feb. 18 which would have made him 9 weeks old. I still thought it odd that the puppy couldn't stand up very well. I thought maybe the flight had bothered him.
Over the next few days he came around a little. His tummy was still very distended and he scratched alot but was otherwise playful and growing. I took him in to the vet for his shots on the 2nd week. We rewormed him because his tummy was still really bloated and now he was developing bald spots most noticeable above his eyes.
A week later, I called Rick and told him the hairloss problem. He told me to try "Bacon Grease"! Unbelievable. So, I returned Bear to the vet and after further investigation, Bear was diagnosed with Demodectic Mange. This particular disease has a genetic component. The adult dogs should not even be being bred.
Rick has declined to compensate us for damages. Bear is on a 45 day oral treatment with very toxic meds that we hope do not cause Neurological problems.
I filed a small claims judgement against him on May 26. I would love to speak to those of you whom have also written reports against him. We need to shut this guy DOWN!
