I have a 1993 Toyota 4 runner. Yep! With Blown headgaskets.
4 weeks ago I call dealership about my truck and ask about the Recall on headgaskets. I am told mine was done in May 1996 by Bob Sax9 who is no longer in business. The story goes like this. Joe tells me to tow it in and he will assist me in this. He states that a 91 head gasket was done 2 weeks earlier and that he would assist me. I told him Do take it take my truck off trailer if there will be an expense to me. (2 witnesses and myself) It is taken off trailer. I am told that it has approx $4200 dollars worth of work needed and TOYOTA is denying covering due to the fact it was already done. This was known by dealership prior to denial. I found paper on Campaign Vo6 that extends assistance regardless of age and mileage on certain models. The stipulation states service since OCT 1996. Mine was done in May 1996 which entitles me to replacement. I also find a list of trucks and Vin numbers with Vin ranges which entitles thes vehicles under Campaign. I have the documentation but am told my vin is not included due to range of Vin. Is this info correct? I am thinking my truck falls into vin range. But this is my Real Gripe. I am led to believe I am getting help with headgasket. I pay my own tow into dealership with their knowledge headgasket works was done in May 96 (no tag on my hinge) and I am denied Headgasket repair. But they make money off my truck by another Campaign on this model for Steering Rod replacement. I have a truck that is junk and they know motor headgaskets are shot. I pay for the tow in and they make money. Then I have to pay for tow back. I was treated poorly by Toyota California who made a case and then bounce me to this person and that. Rep in store bounces me to Service Manager who in turn tells me the employee made a verbal error and what about Human compassion. Post note. I am offered a deal by owner to buy a used 1996 Camry but am denied this due to the fact this now havs problems..??? I cal Toyota California with my argument I am still denied help with Headgasket. THey know this is an ongoing with thousands of trucks and dissatisfied consumers. I tell Toyota California about the Steering Rod Campaign and the lure to fix my headgasket. SHe says to me it is a dealership issue they are privately owned. I says Yeah A dealership issue when Toyota is footing the bill on a steering rod for a junk truck. SLIck move by Toyota and within guidelines of repair for Steering Rod. This is it entice the Consumer on a lie and then make money off of them while they absorb tow bills. Bottom line these motors are junk 3.0 l 6 cyl. Toyota knows it and they are sweeping it under the rug and slamming the headgasket repair on Consumer. How many headgaskets have you paid for 2-3??? BOOOOO to Toyota. I got hounded for not buying American Made. Lesson Learned!!
