It was about mid August when I began to recieve several missed calls every other day due to being in class. Distinct Advantage had managed to get a hold of me one afternoon, a guy who was really persistent in "giving" me this gift of $400 in vouchers for trying out their service when I didn't want it in the first place. I figure if I accepted it and cancelled within two weeks, I would be rid of these people. I also assumed they were legit because they had all of my bank information and where I'm from and such.
About a little over a week, I hadn't recieved any package from Distinct Advantage, but I recieved another call from what sounded like their supervisor. The woman was even more persistent than the first guy, and insisted that they weren't selling anything and wanted me to go through their authorization process again because it "didn't go through" the first time. She also told me that I was being offered this because I'm a "valued Bank of America" costumer. Once again, I figured why not, just to get them off of my back.
Within a few days, I recieved the mail package with the membership card and stuff. The last day I was supposed to call in and cancel the trial was on 9/09/05, but the day it arrived was 9/10/05. The phone numbers I've tried all point to the same automated system that supposedly lets you "cancel" your trial membership with them. I did as it told me and thought I was through with them.
Skip to early October, I checked my bank account online and noticed a check for $59.99 had been posted, except it was dated 9/19/05. I tried calling those numbers again, same automated response. I tried once again with the cancelling membership option they provided. I find out later that it doesn't do anything. Another $19.99 has been charged to my account despite not even using their useless service.
I plan to talk to my bank and see if there is anything to be done about this.
