Never again

I have had nothing but trouble with U-Haul in my recent move (the first, and last, time I will use their services). If you want to get nickeled and dimed to death followed by the most frustrating run-around, by all means, go with U-Haul. Otherwise, find someone else!

I reserved a 20' truck for my moving day in early August and received confirmation of my order. The day prior to my move I was notified that there were no trucks available in my area... I live in a rural area, so I knew I might need to drive a bit to get the truck I needed, but I was actually notified that there were NO trucks (of any size) ANYWHERE near me. After I convinced U-Haul that I could not actually change my move date (their first suggestion), they were able to locate a 14' truck an hour away and offered to give me a small trailer for only $1 dollar. I confirmed that I would take them since I had no other option but they would not tell me what the final price would be (my original order for the 20' truck had been $139) but that it would be less.

The next morning I drove to get the truck, which much to me relief (and surprise) they did have. However, they tried to charge me full price for both the truck and trailer for a subtotal of $169. Then they wanted me to pay insurance ($45 on the truck, $30 on the trailer) seperately on EACH of the two of them. The guy at the rental place (who was very helpful) somehow got the price down to $170 for both plus the insurance, and 1-hour later we were back on the road.

After moving and dropping off the truck/trailer at a location near my new home, I called the next day as instructed to make sure everything went alright (which I didnt know since the drop off location had no instructions other than a red box). I was informed that I was charged $21 for going over my milage limit. I checked my contract and had been given a milage allowance for my old home to new home, but they charged me for the 50-miles between the pick-up location and my home!

I contacted U-Haul to get that resolved and get my money back and was told that I would receive it back on my card within a week. After I didnt get the credit I called them back and was told that a manager denied the reimbursement as they dont approve milage reimbursments over $10 (however, obviously no one bothered to call or email me that information). I asked to speak to a manager and was hung up on (I wanted to assume it was accidental in the transfer), so I called again and was hung up on a second time. I called a third time and was informed that there is no manager to talk with... The person on the line sent an e-mail to a manager "who will call me in the next 24-hours, but if I dont hear from them I should call back."

Seriously, if you want to get nickeled and dimed to death followed by the most frustrating run-around, by all means, go with U-Haul. Otherwise, find someone else!
