My computer screen had a message that I had an error and should call the manufacturer customer service. I went on the web with another computer, called a number which I thought was for the official Toshiba customer service. I was told I had a virus and that 2 other computers on my modem were also affected. I was referred to ITechLine which handled their tech service. They would be cleaned for $200 each. I agreed. A scrolling screen showed in red that there was a foreign IP address and the source of the problem. The computers were "cleaned". I had doubts. Before the charge card charge cleared, I located the official Toshiba website. I was told by the Toshiba customer service person that I had a registry file problem not a virus. I called the credit card issuer and I'll be able to dispute the charge and not have to pay.
