Paid a debt that was already paid and closed

Jefferson Capital sent a notice of settlement which was then transferred to Morgan and Pottinger. I paid the amount to settle or be paid in full. I recently obtained a copy of my credit report which shows the original creditor lists the account as paid and closed as of Oct. 2009. The credit report does not show the debt was transferred or sold to another lender, just that it was paid and closed. Since the account was paid and closed, I believe Jefferson Capital and or Morgan and Pottinger had no cause to pursue the collection. I feel I should be re-imbursed the $341.00 I made on an account that was already paid and closed.
