Consumer Report

Purchased a 2001 Cadillac from him from a Craigslist Ad. 2nd owner, car is in great shape garage kept. 91 thousand miles. With 8-9 pictures, clean motor, clean inside and out. I contacted him to see the car but he say he was working hauling other cars and that this car was his wife car and they were moving back to New York and he couldn't pay insurance on three cars. After about twenty calls between us he called me and told me he would be home the next day, I asked if I could go see the car he gave me the address and I did see the car. I told him I had went on and put money down on another car, He begged me not to buy another car because this car was in such good shape I wouldn't regret it and to booth he would drop the price. We agreed to $2,600 rather than $3,500 I drove the car around the block him and I but while driving the tire pressure light came on, he said one of the tires was low and his wife never check anything she just leave things for him to do. He said all it need was a little air in the right front tire and the light would go out. Everything else looked good. I paid him the money and he gave me a receipt and I told him I had to have someone to bring me back to pick it up. When I came back the same day, to get the car, while pulling into the road a car was coming pretty fast so I had to mash on the gas for speed and I felt a hard bump, I couldn't understand that, still I went and bought tag and Ins. Well later on the next day I drove the car for a while 65-70 miles an hour when I got home we stayed for a while and had to leave again, this time I saw a big puddle of oil underneath the car it was transmission fluid. I took the car to my mechanic, he was closed on Sat. I bought the car that Friday. Monday morning I was at the Mechanic when he opened. It took him a while to find the leak, after taking the air filter system out and he could see the top of the transmission, you could see someone had worked on the transmission and a screw was put in it side ways and the case was cracked and he couldn't stop the fluid from coming out. A second opinion revealed the transmission case was cracked as well, it needed struts and I noticed all the dash board was coming on. Tire pressure light never went out, gas cap light, coolant level low, service engine soon lights stays on. The mechanic say it would cause me more to take the transmission out than the car is worth. I ask him is is it possible for someone to won the car for a period of time and not know these things were wrong? He said no way. He said the aluminum get hot it spreads and the oil would leak out. I call the guy who sold it to me and he said nothing wrong with that car, I asked him to come down to see what was wrong with the car he said he was doing reg. Maintenance on every 3 mouths and changing oil. Monday morning the oil was low and needed oil, I feel if he lied to me like that then the miles might have been tampered with but I don't know where to take it to find out. I ask him to meet with me and return my money. He does not respond at any level. I told this guy when he was promising me how low the miles was and good the car was except the top, that I live on fixed income that was all my saving for a car so I needed dependable transportation I was going to my great grand children graduation. He lied about the car and I couldn't see it with the naked eye. Thanks.
