This is a difficult one as part of it was my fault for being quite naive.
I rented a van from this company and was promised the van from 8.30 on the Friday morning. After showing up 15 mins early I waited patiently for 45 minutes for the van to come available.in which I was in quite a rush by this point (and they knew) and I had to get my house furniture from Birmingham as part of my relocation.
The van I received was full of scratches, dints, knocks and scrapes in which I believed all were covered on the slip I signed. I was very nervous about signing this slip and expressed this to the person who did the handover in which is response was "don't worry love, we aren't in the business for ripping people off" I did another quick survey and thought all had be captured.
I successfully managed to drive the van without a single, knock, scrape or dint all the way from Birmingham to Halifax. I was truly impressed with myself.
Handing the van back though the same person ran straight round the side of the van, to which I thought, what is he doing and he shouted at me "what is this" - "you did this" as pointed out a dint and started being rather abusive saying I have to pay for it.
He was right it wasn't marked on the slip - but they were so much damage it was so hard to tell. Especially when he ran around the van at speed of lighting going "damage here, damage here, - quick sign here"
I believe this company took advantage of 1. I was a female, by myself never hiring a van before, 2 I was in a rush because of their lateness and 3 they had the money in their account and knew I couldn't do anything about it and last of all 4. Giving me a van full of damage!
I left without signing anything because I was so upset. For him aggressively telling me I can whistle on my £300 deposit and he will charge me the rest. They were no talking to this man.
I had written the £300 off and took it to experience and to learn from this. I then find they had not only taken the £300 deposit, £70 for the van hire but a further (in my eyes) unauthorised debit card payment for £180. I can't do anything about this. I think people should definatly be aware of these cowboys and their attempt to get money out of innocent people.
