I am unemployed. I called DirecTV SEVERAL times to inform them that I cannot pay my bill. I asked to have my account suspended until I get a job and are able to pay. I called them 2-3 times a month just to update them. They stated they cannot suspend my account, but as long as I keep in touch, I should be OK. I got a call from them informing me that I needed to return their equipment, so I asked for the return address. They stated they would send me a return box/label but never did. I asked 3 times for this return info... Nothing. Then on 3-16-13, they took 416.52 out of my checking account! No warning, they just took it! They stated they were charging me for the equipment, and an early termination fee. I had been a customer for 10 years! Early termination? Is this a lifetime commitment? I called 3 times yesterday to resolve this and all 3 times, they hung up on me after an extended hold time waiting for a supervisor. This violates California law because they took my unemployment insurance money, and violates the 1976 fair credit collections federal law! They don't care! They state they "had a card on file and charged it"! DirecTV is engaging in illegal collections activity and no one seems to care!
