I recently had an identity theft and reported it promptly, way before the first payment was due. Fingerhut promised everything would be taken care of before it hurt my credit. I signed legal documents and returned them, but never heard back from anybody.
Now a month later, I'm getting calls several times a day from debt collectors. These are actual humans but resemble soul less robots. If I explain the theft and mention having legal documents to back me up, they just ask for a debit card number to pay the debt with, as if Im lying. They probably just don't care.
I'd love to resolve this with fingerhut, but every time I call customer service, I can't get a human on the line, or I get one that hangs up on me as soon as I explain the issue because these people are too lazy to do the job they get paid for once it gets complicated. One outright lied to me, saying she couldn't help, couldn't give me a diffent number, or transfer me to someone who could. She suggested I literally call the same number over and over until I reached someone who could help. If you ask to speak to their boss, they just hang up on you. Did I mention that everyone I talked to could barely speak English?
Eventually I had to pretend like I wanted to buy something in order to get through to a person, then threaten to complain to the manager in order to get some attention. If this isn't resolved soon, I'll have to take legal action to force Fingerhut to comply with the investigation. I have good credit and will do anything to get this removed from my report and punish the person who stole my account info.
I plan to close down my account when this is over. I'd rather pay extra to order items I want from a company that has decent customer service than deal with worthless foreigners that hang up on you all day. Dealing with Customer service isn't meant to be easy but this is hands down the worst experience I've ever had.
