This young college/high school age kid came to my door and said his name was "Brent Kennedy" and that he was in a contest against other seniors at his school and that he was trying to beat the girls in this contest to sell magazines for a trip. He showed me his identification picture (which I casually just glanced at). I bought 3 magazines from him. Redbook was 22.00 10.00 fee— he told me this was for 3 year subsription and Car& Driver 44.00 for 3 years, and maxim 36.00 for 3 year subscription 10.00 fee.
He asked me to write two checks so that he could consider one a gift subscription and he would get extra points. Total of my purchase was 112.00. My husband wasn't home at the time. He asked me what type of business my husband was in (which I thought was a little weird). After he left, I realized I probably spent too much on these magazines, so I read the back of the sale paper and it said that you can cancel the transaction within 3 days of purchase. There is no phone number for the company, only an address.
I had a bad feeling, so I went to google and typed in Palmetto Marketing Inc (I wrote the two checks out to PMI per "Brent Kennedy's" request). Here I found the consumer complaintss. I have sent a stop payment on two checks to my bank. This is a terrible scam to do to people around Christmas time. What goes around comes around. Eventually these scam artists will get what they deserve. Oh by the way, he even told me that I could claim this on my taxes at the end of the year. What a bunch of crap.
