On Sunday 1/20 I purchased a Panasonic BluRay Disc player from the Target store on Sepulveda Blvd. It did not work.
On Monday 1/21 I went back to the store to return it. I had the receipt, the original box and packaging. When the customer service rep (Janine) examined the device she noted that the model number and the serial number did not matche the numbers on the box. Because of this she refused the refund. This was the box and player the sold me the day before.
I asked to speak to the manager (Jasmine), after a half an hour wait she appeared and confirmed "No Refund". She said it was a factory defect and I would have to contact the manufacturer to see what they could do.
Wait a minute!!! Target sells me a defective product in a mismatched box, and has my money and now the problem is between me and the manufacturer. This is ridiculous.
I told her I was not leaving until I got my refund. She turned her back on me and called a security guard who arrived and asked me to leave. I refused. She called the Los Angeles Police department for assistance. After another half hour. 2 police officers arrived and interrogated me in a public area of the store, in full view of many shoppers who probably thought I was shoplifting by the way they looked at me. I agreed to leave
This is a very creative concept of customer service. If you can't support your position with common sense or logic, call the cops.
Felt sorry for the officers that had to waste their time over an $89.00 attempted merchandise return.
I have shopped at least once a week for over 10 years at that store. So much for loyal customer retention
