I received a letter today (2/6) from DirecTV saying effective 2/7 my DirecTV bill was being increased by 4/5% due to owners of television channels increase. I called DirecTV Customer Service and talked to 2 people there and all they could say was sorry. I explained to them that I was told if I signed a contract for 2 yrs my rate would not be increased for that 2 yr period even if there was a increase in rates. I was also told by the supervisor there that there were other benefits of being a DirecTV customer as the letter stated. I told her if you dont have a smartphone, tablet, HD TV or money to pay for an extra DVR none of the benefits apply to me. I also told her another benefit that was listed was the NFL ticket how is that a benefit when football was over. I asked her for the number to the Corp Office and she said she does not have that number. After doing some research on the internet I found the number. I called the office of the President and CEO I spoke with Cindy at 3:16. She said she was sorry but there is nothing they can do. I told her what their rep told me and she said she apologizes for what I was told and they do keep their customers in mind when they do a increase and that is why even thou the owners of the channels were increasing the rate by 8% they were only charging their customers a rate increase of 4.5%. I told her what the rep told me and she said she was sorry I was misinformed but there is nothing she can do. I said to her why is it you can tell me my rate wont increase for 2 yrs but if I cancel my contract with you your going to charge me a cancelation fee. Why is that fair? I told her it sounds like there is some kind of fraud there and I was not going to take this sitting down and I was going to let people know and file complaints to whomever I could. Cindy told me to do what I have to do.
