My wife Wendy called this company to tell them that our fridge was not working properly, that it was loosing it's coldness and it was about room tempature. I suggested in a note to my wife, that it may be a free-on problem? I was in a golf tournament and was unreachable by phone. She called this company, as they offerred free service calls and estimates. They told her that the mother board or control panel was fried and needed replacing, and this would cost $365.00 and that this was the going rate in East Valley or Phoenix for replacing a control panel on a GE Fridge/freeze with ice/water feature. She felt the service man was honest and sincere. When I got home and heard about the charge, I felt this was ridiculous, because I had the control panel of our home central air conditioning system replaced late in 2012 for $300.00 includling labour, parts, and tax. I called GE parts dept. To find out the cost of the control panel, and they quoted me $194.75 as a consumer plus tax & shipping. I called the repairman and asked him what his hourly rate was, and he said they don't charge and hourly rate, they charge by the job. I asked him if they charge a service call, and he said no, they do the service call for free. When I told him the price of the part from GE he said he didn't know the price of the part, he was just the service man. He did not mention to my wife that there was not a hourly charge. When I questioned him why the charge for installing the control panel was approx. $170.00 and that was an unreasonable amount for 1/2 hr. To 3/4 service call, he said that what they charge. I suggested that their service call is built into the job charge, he said no - the service call is free. I also mentioned to him that most appliance repair companies work on a servie call charge, plus an hourly rate once they get here (minimum 1 hour charge) plus parts. He said he did not know other companies were doing this. I feel we were had, and that this company did not explain the charges clearly to my wife.
