Back in June of this year, I received a flier in the mail about AT&T DSL service. I called to get information about the service and at their request I provided them with my personal information. I never committed to any service nor did I agree to any sort of contract. All I wanted was information and I informed the Worldnet representative that I will call back to let them know if I wanted to sign up. Apparently Worldnet decided to mail me the kit anyways without consent. To make a long story short, I returned the package back to the sender and thought that was the end because the Worldnet representative, during the original phone call, explained to me that if for any reason I chose not to use the service, all I had to do was simply return the kit. They told me that the service would begin once the kit was installed and the moment I started using it.
My phone bill came for that month and not only was I charged for the DSL kit but also a month's service for the DSL I never ordered in the first place ($190)!!! I have called AT&T Worldnet customer service several times and have not gone any results. They have been telling me that they will investigate and get back to me. Last 2 times I spoke to the supervisors and told me the same. The last supervisor I spoke to told me that she would escalate this to her superiors and that he would get back to me within 48 hours. They have given me the runaround and I am very tired of this. And now my latest AT&T phone bill (and 2 months later) now includes a cancellation fee of $200 tax.
Now AT&T is saying I owe $400 of DSL service, which I have never used, and am being threatened by AT&T that they will send me to collections if I do not pay this balance. On top of that, I can't even speak to an billing specialist until this balance is paid!!! If this isn't a blatant example of the consumer being ripped off by a large corporation, I don't know what is. I am on the verge to just pay the balance and end this, but I found out about this website and thought this might be my last chance for resolution and advice. Someone please help...
