U-verse changs plane without any notification

I used to have a contract with AT&T for one year for the INTERNET service only. After my contracts ends the company (AT&T) changed my plan automatically without sending me any e-mails or notifications.
They changed my plan from "24.99" a month to the Elite plan which is 40.00$ a month.
