I thought it was strange that IX Webhosting was asking for a year upfront in payment. Yes, they seemed cheap—very cheap. I read reviews, and somehow IX Webhosting had good ratings on several sites.
It did seem suspicious because I had already read reviews from past disgruntled IX Webhosting customers.
A friend of mine told me "I hear IX Webhosting is Good". Let me tell you how VERY wrong my friend was.
Out of the 3-4 weeks I had IX Webhosting's service, my site was down 90% of the time. So much for 99% uptime... IX Webhosting would be lucky if they had 10% uptime.
I knew something was dreadfully wrong when my control panel went down. Even the IX Webhosting home page went down! On top of that of course my site was down.
I wasting about 50 hours trying to configure my site for the IX Webhosting control panel, only to find their service was completely unreliable. I signed up on a Wednesday and the first Friday night that came by my site went down.
I admit I'm a complete fool. I used IX Webhosting for 2 years (a number of years back) and my site was down back then every weekend. I left them for a few years and went back because my friend told me how 'Good' IX webhosting is. I gave IX Webhosting another chance. And wow, I was completely and utterly disappointed again with their service.in fact, I'm upset enough with IX Webhosting to take my personal time, writing this Rip off report to save other customers the grief, headaches, and troubles that IX Webhosting put me through.
Anyway, it took well over a month to get a refund from IX Webhosting and I had to submit several trouble tickets, make multiple phone calls, and basically commit a huge amount of time & effort to get back the year upfront I had paid for.
On top of this, IX Webhosting gouged me with an expensive 'Free' domain, which they refused to refund me for. I had the domain about 2 days and asked for a refund on the 3rd day. They told me the registration was non-refundable and they charged an exorbitant price... 20 usd for my 'free' domain. They only gave me one year on top of this. Note: NO ONE charges more than about 10 usd for a 1 year registration. These guys charged me double the price.
On top of this, I don't even know how to control the DNS on my free domain, since they already deleted my control panel.
In summary, during my most recent experience, IX Webhosting was in fact down MOST of the time... Yes it's hard to believe, but my site was constantly down.By the way, sure, maybe a page might load after 20 minutes of trying, or maybe even halfway load on the 50th attempt... But can you call that 'server uptime'? Their service is not fit for a business, or even a personal blog...
I wish someone would shut these guys down, their a horrible company and they need to be exposed to the public. Here's another rip off report about IX Webhosting http://usacomplaints.com/reports/0/235/RipOff0235196.htm, and my experience confirms that IX Webhosting is a horrible company. Don't trust anything IXWebhosting says to you—they are lying and deceitful, and dishonest. And their uptime is 40-50% at best, and while your site ACTUALLY runs, expect it to be sluggish, because you're going to be sharing a server with 10,000 other websites...
