Do not pay for extended tech support/Apple care. Waste of money

I am lodging a complaint just to let people know what a total waste of time it is to pay for the Apple care program that is offered with each Apple Mac/macbook purchase. I have had no real problems with my physical computers, per se, but I have had several technical problems that remain unresolved by Apple tech support.

I purchased my desktop and notebook on the same day thru MicroCenter, a computer store located off of Rt. 315. On the same day, I also purchased a brand new Hewlett Packard printer/copier/scanner/fax machine that I was assured was compatible with my new Mac. I have owned these Macs for not quite one year (will be a year this coming July) and have only been able to use my printer for very short periods of time, and never with the text edit program on my computer, because the computer chooses to sometimes not 'acknowledge' the printer port, for some reason. I have dealt with both Apple tech support, and was told it was a 'printer' problem. I then dealt with Hewlett Packard, and was told it was a 'computer problem'. Hewlett Packard did send me an updated install CD which appeared to work temporarily, until the computer again did not acknowledge the port. I have never gotten an explanation from anyone at tech support from Apple... Other than denying it could be a computer problem, go figure.

The next issue arose when my. Mac mail account suddenly became inaccessible to me. It appeared to be fine when I opened it up and then after using it for several moments, it suddenly decided to move some of my mail folders from the mail box that comes up when I click on the mailbox icon on my dock to my online. Mac mail account. I had been unable to send email earlier that day and had gone to the 'help' section of the mail program and had followed the directions to reset the account, which had appeared to work for a short while. When my mail folders disappeared and I was not able to find them, and was not able to find anything in the 'help' section that seemed to address this problem, I finally called tech support. I explained what had happened to a young man I could barely understand. He had me do this and that, and then finally told me that there was nothing he could do, that I had 'deleted' my mail folders and they were consequently not able to be retrieved, even tho they were apparently on my. Mac online account. I ended up having to figure out how to retrieve this information on my own, after messing with the computer for another couple of hours.

I think it's inexcusable that these companies are permitted to charge these exorbitant fees for extended tech support, when their tech support is literally worthless. My advice to anyone who makes a purchase of this type is to not bother investing the hundreds of dollars they want to charge you for this nonexistent service. You would be better served saving your money and calling Geek Squad when something malfunctions, you would probably spend less and get more information that was at least helpful. On a side note, I tried to access my. Mac mail again this evening, only to have it totally deny my password and not allow me access at all. When I went back to it very late at night, I got a box stating that this account had been manually moved offline and asking me if I wanted to go back online. I have NO clue what's going on with this email account, I only know that I get NO assistance from Apple even after paying over $300 for this service, which is really disappointing. I have filled out their online surveys after each disappointing non-response from tech support, but of course, have never received any reply to my observations. I can count on one hand all the times I have complained about a company in my entire life so the service has to be REALLY bad for me to say anything, but I have really become fed up.
