I bought a HP Photosmart C5180 printer for my mother when we upgraded her to a wireless network and a laptop (also HP). This printer DOES NOT work with Vista over a wireless connection. I also found out the hard way that is uninstalls itself over USB with Vista.
I traveled to my moms house, a 45 minute drive mind you, to set everything up and the printer doesnt work, so I initiate a text chat with a HP tech and after 5 hours of doing everything they asked of me, still no printer. I was out of time, so I went home.
I came back the next week (another 45 minute drive) and called HP (India, by the way). I spent 3 hours doing the exact same things we did during the chat the last week. Still no printer.
The week after I finally got to a level 2 tech at HP (still India). I allowed him to take control of my moms computer via the net and look through the registry. He said the computer had a virus and should be wiped and reloaded from scratch. After 2 hours on the phone, I spent another 3 hours doing just that.
The next trip I tried to install the printer via USB. I got 1 printout and the printer software uninstalled itself. I finally talked to a case manager who told me that they have done all they could and there was nothing he would do. So now I am stuck with a printer that WILL NOT WORK AT ALL! No refund/no exchange/nothing.
HP does not care about its customers, it only cares about its bottom line. I was just over my 30 days when I talked to the case manager who said there was nothing more he would do and I won't issue you a refund.
Another once good American company gone bad. Avoid at all costs because it will only cost you more time and money than you bargained for.
