I have a Kaiser health plan through my employer. The plan has a $20 copay for a 30-day supply for prescription drugs through their pharmacy. I was recently charged $32.75 for a 90-day supply of a generic drug. Sounds great, right? Except that I could have got a 90-day supply of the same exact drug for $9.99 WITHOUT INSURANCE at 2 other pharmacy chains. When I called Kaiser complain, I was told that I was charged the correct amount, and that I got a good deal because I was actually charged less than my copay which would have been $60. Uh, thanks?
The bigger problem is that Kaiser will not tell you how much their mail order prescriptions will cost beforehand. You have to order and pray you're getting a better deal than what you could get anywhere else without using your plan.
Over the last year, Ive overpaid at least $200 for prescription drugs thanks to my Kaiser prescription 'benefit'
