Myself and several coworkers were eager to sign up to LA Fitness. Myself personally having just had a baby needed some extra workouts. I signed up for the Body of Change program. The trainer Negauye was eager to get me started and even called me on my cell phone to confirm when I was going to come down and bring my credit card to sign up. After that he met with me briefly. I signed up with him for every Thursday night at 7pm. The first time he was a no call no show. I then asked him if maybe a different time and day worked better for him, after he apologized for missing the appointment. We scheduled for the following Friday at 10am. Again a no call no show. I went and spoke to Kia who informed me that he had been overbooked and was also a manager. She then signed me up to train with another guy named Ronnie. She put the appointment in the computer and then assured me that this was a misunderstanding.
I showed up to the session with Ronnie and thus he did not show up. When I went to the training manager Cale he sat me down and pulled up the appointment via the computer. He offered no explanation as to why Ronnie did not see the appointment in the computer. Cale then went into a speech about how I had already told him 5 times how I was unhappy witrh the service. He then offered to sign me up with yet another trainer on Saturday morning as they were having their grand opening. He then gave me 4 free training sessions.
However, his verbal presentaion and callous conversation made me not want to even go further with the personal training. What good are 4 free sessions if the trainer never shows up! I called corporate. They gentleman put me on hold for 10 minutes and then said that he would not take any payments out until after this was resolved. He also assured me that he would call me back within 24 hours of the decision to cancel my body of change membership.
A week later no phone call. I called the local Brandon area facility and asked for the corporate number and was told to call back in 10 minutes as the employee did not have it. When I called back I was transferred to Cale AGAIN. This time he was even more rude. He questioned me as to why I called corporate, when I responed, "that is non of your concern" he became furious and told me that EVERYTHING in that gym was his concern. I stoppped the conversation and asked him again for the number to corporate he reluctantly gave it to me.
I called corporate and spoke with Dave this time. There were several notes on file. He told me that I would have to buy out half of my personal training session at over $500! I refused and repeatedly asked to speak to a manager. He then told me that just because 2 trainers didn't show up did not give me cause to cancel that membership. He then tried to transfer me to Clearwater Florida location. I asked him why I should have to inconvenience myself and my child to drive 45 minutes each way to go to the gym. He then stated that the only way that I could cancel my membership was to either move to an area with no LA fitness in 20 miles or to have a medical condition.
I told him that I was CRAZY and that I will go to my doctor to get papers that state that I am crazy and need not be participating in rigorous physical activity because of various reasons. He then stated that I was in fact crazy and that if I sent those documents to the address he gave me that they would cancel my membership.
I also cancelled my gym membership because I found out that I had a one gym membership and that was not indicated to me when I signed up.in addition to that I brought my mother in law to the gym and was made to pay $15 for her to work out even though I have a million free passes. Also I joined on the 13th of January and was asked if I would like to change the date of the payment I stated that I would like it to come out 30 days after I signed up. I found out through corporate that they had already taken out the money on the first of February. I paid $155 to sign up then they took out $44 2 weeks later. I also paid over $200 for the body of change NONE OF THAT MONEY WILL BE REFUNDED. It is a shame that whether or not I have a physical or mental disability that this is what I have to disclose (whether true or not) to get out of a membership that I showed up for NOT the trainers. Do not sign up with them. Please!
