Design Savers Plan
Ripoff Out-Of-The-Blue "Refund Check" for a membership I never had?

I have not had any actual dealings with this company, have never supplied them with credit card details, nor even heard of them until today.

I received a brief letter from them, along with a "refund check" for $252.50.
The letter reads as follows:

"Dear Design Savers Plan Member,

Your Design Savers Plan membership has been canceled and you will no longer be billed. Enclosed you will find your refund check.

If you have any other questions or concerns please contact us at 1-800-580-8345.

Thank you,

Design Savers Plan"

I have no idea where they got my address and name (the check is hand-written to me, signed with a rubber stamp of the name Steven D. Smith).

A random check in the mail is a big red flag for me, and much as I would like $250, I also like to know where money is coming from and who is sending it to me. I'm not willing to take money that has been stolen from others.

I immediately did an internet search on them, and came up with a lot of complaints about their "service" (or lack of), but nothing resembling what has happened to me today.

Apparently they are unresponsive to phone calls and email, so I'd like some suggestions on what action to take from you folks. I plan on shredding the check regardless, but if it can be used as evidence of some sort, I'm happy to hang onto it.
